The play guide
How to play Chess Classic
Chess Classic provides legal-move highlights, which are useful for learning where a piece can go. Those highlights do not judge whether a move is wise. Before moving, consider both the square you want and the pieces or king protection you leave behind.
Your goal
Checkmate the opposing king: attack it in a position with no legal escape.
Controls
Click or tap a piece to show its legal moves, then select a highlighted destination square.
Your first round
- Inspect the position for an immediate threat to your king or an undefended piece.
- Select a candidate piece and examine its highlighted destinations.
- Consider the opponent's reply before choosing a destination and handing over the turn.
This guide is based on the supplied game instructions.
Tips for your next attempt
- Look for threats to your king before pursuing a capture elsewhere.
- After a proposed capture, check whether another opposing piece can recapture on that square.
- Use the move highlights to learn legal movement, while making a separate check for whether the destination is defended.
Watch out for
- A legal highlighted square may still lose material or expose your king.
- Moving only one attacking piece can leave the rest of your position undeveloped and unsupported.
