The play guide
How to play Num puz
Num Puz is a sliding-order puzzle, so tiles cannot be picked up and dropped anywhere. Moving one tile also moves the empty space, which determines the next available moves. Work on a manageable part of the board while keeping access to the unsolved area.
Your goal
Arrange the numbers in ascending order from left to right and top to bottom.
Controls
Click or tap a numbered tile adjacent to the empty square to slide it into that square.
Your first round
- Find the next number you want to place and locate the empty square.
- Move neighboring tiles to bring the empty square beside that number.
- Slide the number toward its destination, repeating the process while avoiding unnecessary disruption to completed areas.
This guide is based on the supplied game instructions.
Tips for your next attempt
- Start with a smaller board to learn how a short cycle moves both a tile and the gap.
- Think one move beyond the destination: where will the empty square be after the slide?
- Avoid repeatedly undoing a slide unless you are deliberately restoring the gap for a different route.
Watch out for
- Tapping a distant number cannot move it across intervening tiles.
- Fixing one tile in isolation can block the route needed to finish the rest of its row.
